Comments

It is so rare to find Arts & Crafts dresses that I think if you like this dress you just have to accept its condition. Pretty colours and with very fine embroidery. An amateur piece but of highest quality. This and the pink linen dress were made by a Mrs J Skurray, nee Harris of Park Crescent, Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The dress was worn by Mrs Spurgin of Abingdon, Oxfordshire, sister of Mrs Cox who wore the ivory dress. It had been on loan to Abingdon Museum, Oxon until recently. Inside is a metal label attached from the time the dress was loaned to the museum. It reads AB Harris Silk Dress. Mrs Spurgin.

Condition

The cream linen is slightly coarser weave than the pink, which makes it rather interesting visually. There is one little brownish mark to the front left sleeve, as you look at it, and four to the hem area (photos available). The back has three small light brownish markings and one area of light staining, approx 3 x 3 in; 7 x 7 cm. The hem has been turned up at some stage and now there is a feint line.
