Barron & Larcher D
1932

This panel is from one of the pairs of curtains printed by Barron and Larcher. See ARTICLES for more information. If you were wanting to recreate the curtains, this would be quite simple. When the fabric is gathered the fading would not be so noticeable. The red edging on the original curtains has been cleaned and would be able to be reapplied inside out! The tape is the same both sides. We can get these re made if you were interested.

Description

Winchester length from The Fell Dining Room, Girton College, Cambridgedesigned by Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher, hand block and discharge printed indigo on a natural linen ground with a geometric design, repeat 9 x 6 1/2 in or 23 x 16 cm wide;10 ft 2 in drop x 33 in or 2.85 drop x 84 cm wide (one selvedge)

Condition

A very rare piece from these important curtains. Because there was no interest in the original curtains, we have unpicked them, removed the lining and interlining which was disintegrating and filthy and had the fabric cleaned. Naturally the faded stripes are still there but the fabric is really rather wonderful. Half way down on the right hand side is a 22 in or 56 cm tear. This could be supported or removed as wished. There is further damage to the lower 4 in or 10 cm of the piece and some staining to that region. Ask for detailed photos and condition report.
