Comments

One of the smaller Girton College pairs of curtains. These could be unpicked, cleaned, a little conservation work undertaken and new lining and interlining. This would freshen and make these important curtains highly desirable. I can arrange all this should you wish. A museum may prefer to leave them as they are and have them cleaned and a little conservation work undertaken. The hand dyed red edging braid is carpet edging, but absolutely original. The fabric is 36 in or 92 cm wide. The curtain edging is of a different tape but again original. There is approximately 11.4 m of fabric in this pair of curtains. The fabric width is 36 in or 92 cm. Condition

Curtain 1: Left hand braid unfaded but right hand (leading edge) faded. There is a tear to the very bottom hem 3 inch or 8 cm and a small hole 3/4 in or 2 cm. Curtain 2: There is a vertical tear to one side 6 1/2 in or 17 cm long which has occurred on a fade strip. Red tape has faded in parts to both sides and there are faded stripes where folds have been exposed to the sun. There are vertical fade lines to both curtains but these are not at all bad. The original deep indigo can clearly be seen throughout the curtains. The hopsack lining is patched. The pelmet has different hand dyed red tape edging but this is original. A few little discolourations to the braid. The lining is torn.
