Beetlewing
early 19th c

cut into small leaves and caught down by two silk threads into trailing meandering foliage, with small flowers, their stamens of silver flattened foil couched onto an organza ground, the stems similarly worked, 24 in x 44 in or 62 cm x 112 cm

Comments

I have seen plenty of beetlewing applied to organza, for dresses for mid 19th century ladies and for tourist industry mats of the late 19th/early 20th century. This piece and the next are in another league, much finer quality pieces

Condition

Very good. A piece 14 1/2 x 5 in or 37 x 14 cm has been removed from one end.
