Boy's Red Dress
c 1860
Stunning colour. The inner waistband with the five buttonholes was for securing the skirt to an underbodice, probably of natural cotton.
Cataloguing
the two piece of scarlet fine wool, the bodice the neck and short sleeves scalloped and hand embroidered with black silk, black velvet buttons to back opening with brass hooks and eyes fastening, the pleated skirt embroidered with a continuous vine design, the waistband with buttonhole fastening (button missing) inner waistband lined with natural cotton with five buttonholes, all hand stitched, 20 in;50 cm underarm; 22 in; 56 cm waist
Condition
Very good. Hardly worn. There are some very feint markings to two back pleats under the embroidery, but these hardly show. The overall impression is fresh and unworn.
