Cottage Bonnet
c 1810

Rare bonnet. Could this be what was called a gypsy bonnet? This would be fitted over a neat head of hair fashionable at this period. I can just see this being worn with a little simple muslin dress can't you?

Description

of fine herringbone plaited straw, with shallow brim and bavorlet, 10 in;26 cm across.

Condition

Well worn. The back bavorlet has some pieces missing from the last row. The velvet ribbons are worn and cut. The wires inside are damaged (photo available) and the lining missing. I assume it had lining.
