French Embroidered Wallet
Late 18th c

This lovely wallet belong to Lady Ottoline Morrell. Born Violet Anne Cavendish-Bentinck (1873  - 1938), she married MP Philip Morrell, with whom she shared a love of art and Liberal politics. A society hostess, her patronage influential in artistic and intelectual circles. Her eccentric attire and aristocratic manner, extreme shyness and a deep religious faith set her apart from her times. Her pioneering work as a decorator, colourist, and garden designer is still under appeciated. Ottoline had a great gift for friendship, and entertained like minded people at  their London, Bedford Square house in Bloomsbury and the country house, Garsington Manor.
