A beautiful and very finely embroidered piece.
the ivory silk ground with a plaque to the top embroidered in floss silks with a castle, church and houses, the sky painted pink and blue, surrounded either side and below with little scenes of churches, urns on plinths, trees, their foliage in tight French knots, baskets of fruits and flowers, large flower sprigs including a tulip, cornflowers, pink and rose, with 1803 Friede (Peace) written on a flag, Scherz (Humour)1803 and Freundschaft und Liebe (friendship and love), in soft shades of blue, green, yellow, beige, worn velvet frame, 17 x 21in ; 43 x 53 cm wide
Very good apart from the sides of the piece have been unevenly cut. The frame is so approrpiate being the right colour and rather worn, so if you minded the cut sides you could have a piece of card put each side in neutral shade. Personally it does not worry me.
