I assume that this piece has been reduced from a larger piece. The embroidery at the edges is not quite complete. I cannot think what the piece was used for with the drawstring through the top . The tassels are beautiful. Any ideas? This would look marvellous framed.
the green silk taffeta ground divided into four panels each embroidered with a flower head hanging between C scrolls, with flowers, leaves and fruits above and below, in shades of apricot, yellow, green twisted silks and three types of goldwork bullion wire, the base with gold lace work lattice, the top with embroidered eyelet holes with a threaded hand made plaited cord, the six elaborate tassles of silver flattened wire wrapped round a silk core, lined with a pink silk taffetta, 9 1/2 x 18 1/2 in or 24 x 47 cm.
Clearly the silks are a little faded but still quite beautiful. The eyelet hole where the left hand tassel emerges is split. When the piece is held to the light there is some splits to the green silk, but laid flat these do not show. The lining is damaged.
