We think the buttons are of George V (1910-36) who used a Tudor Crown on his buttons. Honi soit qui mal y pense May he be shamed who thinks badly of OR Evil (or shame) be to him that evil thinks.
Blazers were often handed down. It being an honour to wear a famous past team members blazer.
Red and cream stripes, with high collar and lapels, labelled Farrell & Sons Ltd, Camberley. BHS O'Reilly 5, four brass domed buttons each bearing a Tudor Crown and GR, three patch pockets, lined with natural cotton, top of collar to hem 27 1/2 in/70 cm;
Slightly marked here and there. Both pockets have been repaired at the top corner nearest the side seam. The left hand pocket has been re-stitched neatly, but noticeable. The right hand pocket has been similarly stitched, but there is also an L-shaped tear - further damage after the repair has been made. On the right hand sleeve, there has also been a small tear repaired on the cuff. White cototn has been used on the red stripes, so this could clearly be improved upon by using red. The inside is very clean.
The River and Rowing Museum at Henley on Thames has a similar blazer. Accession no.2011.41.
