John Piper S Maria della Salute
1960

The painterly design is one of five fabrics designed by John Piper (1902-1993) for A Century of Sanderson 1860-1960, Sanderson's prestigious Centenary Collection. In 1954 Piper visited Venice for the performance of Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw.  Piper designed the sets and his wife Myfanwy was the librettistReturning in 1959 to prepare for an exhibition of his work in London at the Arthur Jeffress Gallery, this study of the S Maria della Salute church was made and Sanderson in 1960*.  Piper regularly made paintings of the city, and drew illustrations for an edition of Adrian Stokes' book Venice

The colours are wonderful and were printed on a high quality satinised cotton, Sanderlin.  These large design repeats were perfect for 60's architecture and now fit in well with loft living.

This length would look stunning mounted on a stretcher and hung. No need for glass. The colours will sing out. Let us do this for you. I have two pieces similar, which I am selling seperately.

This is the last selvedge to selvedge length I have.
