Hangings
1920s

These are really beautiful with good colours and elegant design. They could be used as hangings or curtains. I have included them in this section because they will appear to Europeans, as they were intended, rather than the Oriental market.

Description

The black silk ground embroidered with a waterside scene of wading egrets amonst lillies, a tall prunus tree rising from the water, its branches entwined with roses, a large pheasant and pairs of martins on the branches, all in sahdes of soft and stronger pink, blue, green/blue grey, ivory thick twisted silks, 9ft 5 in x 58 in; 2.85  x  1.48 m wide

Condition

Very very good.  There is a pocket across the top 3 in; 8 cm deep, for putting a pole through to hang the piece. This could be unstitched or turned under.  One side has machine stitching and is a little ragged, where a lining has been attached. This needs turning under.
