Used by a gentleman when powdering his wig and to protect his clothes. Wig powder was made from finely ground starch that was scented with orange flower, lavender, or orris root.

for a man, of T shape, the front in ink M Banks 2 55 the white linen with a squarish collar with tightly gathered frill, a V insert below the collar, the front opening with tape ties, the full sleeves tightly gathered at the tops and with a gusset below, the wide cuffs with tightly gathered frill and Dorset buttons.

Condition

Very good indeed. There is a small tear to the front frilled collar. I think the tapes are original. Linen thread has been used to attach them.
