drawloom woven wool and silk square shawl, the purple twill silk ground with fillover wool diagonal leaf and flower sprig trellis , the borders with exotic palmettes, infilled and srrounded with foliage, all in soft reds, blues, green and saffron yellow, 5 ft or 1.53 cm square, 3 in or 8 cm fringe.

Comments

Unusual colouring. Woven in one piece with sewn on fringe. Identical shawl but different colouring illustrated in The Norwich Shawl no 96, page 112. Norwich Museum no 672.969.2

Condition

Excellent. The fringe is a little tangled.
