Queen Anne Cord Trapunto Quilting
Early 18th c

A rare piece of amazingly intricate and skilled quilting.  How on earth did they have the patience to do it! The piece was probably from a bedcover. The cotton cord ran through the channels created by the running or backstitched parallel lines, which gave a slightly three dimensional effect. It is really interesting to see the ends of the cords popping out of the linen on the reverse. A fine reference piece.

Description

Finely cord quilted with a dense design of scrolling leaves and flowers, in white linen, the backing of linen, 15 x 19 in/40 x 50 cm maximum measurements.

Condition

You will see the edge is slightly ragged . There are seven splits, the longest 2 in/ 5 cm. If you wanted to have this mounted to display the splits could easily be disguised.
