Rare Boy's Trousers
1820-1830
These belonged to John Sale, Ashwell, Hertfordshire. See: Rose, Clare Children's Clothes fig 64 , p 92 for similar except ours have a waistband.
Cataloguing
of white cotton with side opening and button and buttonhole attachment, three buttonholes to the front waistband and one buttonhole to the back (for attaching trousers to a top), front slanting pocket, front and back seam, the front with small lower slit, pleat to lower leg, waist 22 in or 56 cm; inside leg 16 1/2 in or 42 cm
Condition
One button is metal (brass) the other linen covered. You will probably be able to see the pinkish markings on these trousers and some light brownish marks. I expect a conservator could fade these but whether they may not be completely removed.
