each with three roundels containing insects, a spider or fly, dragonfly and a cicada of between pavillions, bridges, willow trees, butterflies and flowers, all embroidered in tent stitch on an ivory silk gauze ground, each 17 x 1 3/4 in; 44 x4.5 cm; now hand stitched to acid free calico, stretched over acid free board and with a cardboard and hand painted watercolour lined mount.

Comments

These were from the borders of a woman's summer robe. Charming subjects. The cicada is an ancient Chinese symbol of resurrection and immortality. The dragonfly is a symbol of summer. Make a very nice present.
