Roller Printed Skirt
c 1810-1820

Lovely colour and design. The folds where the pleating occurred can still be seen so easy enough to reinstate as a skirt.

Cataloguing

unpicked, of red cotton printed with a mid blue leaf spray and a small green and yellow flowerheads, two pocket slits, edged inside with pale pink silk braid, original horizontal join to the back of the skirt, repeat 1 in or 3 cm. length 3ft 2 in or 92 cm,hem circumference 9ft 4 in or 2.85 m

Condition

Very good apart from a few holes at the centres of flowerheads where the iron dye has worn through. There is a vertical 8 in or 20 cm tear (which someone has machined but could easily be unpicked and repaired more sympathetically) near one of the pockets. Ifthe skirt was reinstated this would not show. A 1 in or 2.5 cm tear which could be quite easily mended. The pink silk edging the pockets is shedding. There is another hole to the top waistband and another minor tear
