Silk Brocade Reticule
fabric 1740's
There is a seam at the bottom of side 1 (with poppy) showing the silk was probably part of a dress and then made into a bag a little later.
Cataloguing
of dress silk, the finely ribbed ivory ground woven with self coloured stylised leaves and buds, with shaded red and pink, yellow and rust and blue and magenta flower sprays, including a pink (carnation) and poppy, green silk ribbon bows to top gathered edge, later drawstring, lined with fine mid green silk, 6 1/2 in or 17 cm drop x 9 in or 23 cm widest bottom.
Condition
One slight slight yellowish marking which can hardly be seen because of the gathers. This is on the side with the red poppy (side 1), but nearer the two small magenta and pink flowers to the right.
