Strawberry Thief
1883

Amazingly I have acquired some more of this design, not with the strawberries but with the thrushes and flowers from the design.  For a Morris enthusiast.  Designed by William Morris in 1883. On the selvedge of another piece recently sold it had Morris & Company, 449 Oxford Street, London , W for textiles printed between 1877-1917. Although this piece is just a strip and you can only see the breasts and legs of the birds, the colours and foliage are wonderful. This would look really good mounted and hung. We can do this for you.

Description

the indigo discharge ground hand block printed with a central tulip flanked by pairs of flowers , amongst foliage, in shades of pink, yellow, green, blue and natural,  3ft x 8 in; 92 x 20 cm;

Condition

Excellent.The selvedges have been cut so there is half of the indigo selvedge at each end.  Clearly a curtain offcut. The thrush's tails are just there.  We could mount this on acid free board for you or on a stretcher which would make a terrific present.
