Stuart Thistle
1660

This slip would have been embroidered by a woman for her own pleasure, and then applied to a bed curtain on a four poster bed.

Description

Three thistles on one stem, one yellow with palest pink hairs, another mid blue edged with brown and with palest pink hairs and the third palest green outlined in mid green with palest pink hairs, three leaves of green or yellow, using silks in tent stitch, now mounted on a natural coarse old linen ground.

6 x 5 1/4 in wide - actual embroidery. The mount 8 x 7 in.

Condition

Excellent.  I can probably find a suitable plain oak frame c 1900 for this piece. They do look particularly good framed this way. Or it could be unpicked and applied to velvet for a cushion.
