Velvet Curtains

Cherwell designed by John Henry Dearle for Morris & Company, printed velveteen in green on beige ground with a variety of flowers including thistles, chrysanthumums, carnations, roses and acanthus leaves, stamped Reg Morris & Company, 449 Oxford Street, London W on selvedges in several places. A pair of curtains each 4 ft 2 in x 9 ft drop; 1.26 x 2.70 m, each curtain with one central seam.
Comments
This diagonal meander pattern was taken in part from William Morris' designs and translated by Dearle, art director of the woven and printed textile manufacture of Morris & Co. Parry, Linda William Morris Textiles p 157 no 61 This design was also printed onto cotton. From 1891 is was used as Double Bough wallpaper.
Condition
These have also darkened with the light but one would not know. They are a little patchy in a couple of places but if hung the folds would disguise this. There were a few small splits but I have had these conserved. Photos available.
