Comments

A really nice present for a Morris devotee. Ask for better photos. This design was printed at Merton Abbey in Surrey. Of the nineteen patterns registered by Morris & Co between May 1882 and September 1885, seventeen were designed to be printed by the indigo discharge method. This design had additional half tones of indigo and weld providing shades of blue, white, green and yellow. Wey is one of the tributaries of the River Thames. The design is a diagonal slant, reminescent of 17th century velvet designs. This fabric was printed at Merton Abbey.
