Comments
The spencer took its name from Earl Spencer(1758-1834) who wore a similar kind of short jacket. Presumably he was an ancestor of Princess Diana of the Spencer family. The spencer soon became to be an essential part of a woman's wardrobe, being warm and often decorative. Spencers are difficult to find. A very nice example with the unusual feature of quilted collar and cuffs. The skirt goes very well with it. The colour is definately creamy/ivory. Some of the photos make it appear more ivory. The skirt has a small yellowish mark to the them. Ask for photo. The later waistband gathering and could easily be undone. The spencer is SOLD but the skirt £ 275 is still available.
Condition
There are some large moth holes to lower front left, as you look at the spencer. The sleeves also have some. Photos available of damage. Inside has light brown staining.
