Wool with silk
late 16th/17th c

probably from a bedhanging, the red wool ground embroidered with yellow couched silk stems with flowerheads and leaves, the borders with other stylised plant heads 10 x 4 in or 26 x 10 cm.

This is for collectors of early textiles who might not be able to afford a more expensive piece, but who long to own a small fragment of an early textil

Condition

As you can see the silk fillings have rotted away leaving the black residue, which somehow does not detract from the lovely design.
