Woolwork Picture
Late 18th c

Cornucopia is a symbol of abundance and nourishment, originating from classical antiquity. It is particularly associated with Thanksgiving holiday in North America.

I love the slight naive quality of this piece. This looks stunning hung. Now in old French original painted frame and with acid free board mounts.

Description

the cornucopia worked in blue grey and natural wools filled with a variety of flowers including lillies, carnations and roses, all in shades of deep pink to pale pink, soft yellow and browns, some French knots to the central flower, all on a cotton ground 13 x 16 in; 33 x 41 cm wide.

Condition

The colours are really good with no fading. The background has some light brown spotting and a few splits, but when hung these do not show.
