Harlequin Paisley
c 1820

It is very unusual to find harlequin bordered European shawls. A very attractive shawl. This would have been woven on a handloom, the threads on the reverse being closely cropped. Hooked vines are reminiscent of Kashmir shawls, a motif occasionally copied on European shawls.

Condition
