Straw Work
1852

Rare and delightful piece. Straw pictures rarely survive for obvious reasons. Just needs a frame.

Description

picture on marble, the sarcophagus with metal thread to the edges, laid with straw and edged with pearls, the marble plaques to two sides with Sacred to the Memory of My Dear Mother. E A Armfield who died April 11, 1852 aged 57. The other side with a quote from Heb 11th. 4 She being dead yet speaketh all below a willow tree worked in straw, the ground with tufts of straw and flowers with straw petals and pearl centres, on a mossy straw ground, in the distance small willow trees , some showing the drawning, amidst arcading, 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 in or 14 x 12 cm

Condition

Very good. A little of straw work has come away from the hillocky middle ground, but it is interesting to see the pencil drawing. The foreground is amazing. The little petalled flowers with pearl centres are delightful, as is the ground, which looks realistic.
