Cataloguing

Of a troubador, probably from a chair back, the man wearing a blue jacket and gold knee breeches with blue stockings and playing a lute or mandolin, surrounded by large fruits on stems, all in shades of blue, yellow, red, green and brown wools, highlights in silk, using fine tent stitch, the border in larger cross stitch with large stylised leaves, 19 x 13 in., first third of 18thc.

Condition

Excellent embroidery and interesting subject. Note how the flowers are out of scale to the figure, a charming characteristic of early embroidery.
