Patchwork Coverlet
c 1780 - c. 1830
Fantastic. To find a coverlet, which is presumably unfinished, composed of such small hexagons using printed cottons from the 1780's in a variety of techniques is a real find.
Cataloguing
of very small hexagons 3/4 in; 2 cm widest, flanked by a border of ointerlocking diamonds, edged with patterned cotton, all in printed dress cottons using a variety of technques such as hand block, roller printing and hand colouring, the reverse with hand written original papers to the diamond section, 51 x 44 in; 1.30 x 1.12 m
Condition
Very good. A few of the pieces have been replaced. The diamond fabric on the border still has the original glaze. There are a few slight markings to the centre and if you cannot see these in the photos on the site, ask for more.
