Woven Pashmina
c 1825

Beautiful colouring. Good quality pashmina. This is slightly softer than no 9. I've realised we have omitted to put any photos of the whole shawl on the site. Please ask for these.

Cataloguing

the scarlet centre with deep borders 17 in; 43 cm with eight slender gently curving pines filled with a seed, the whole perched on a little stand, in shades of yellow, blue, white, between guard stripes with a meander design, predominantely in blue but with touches of yellow and red, the side borders similarly with more blue shading, each spandrel woven with a small boteh, signature to one boteh,10 ft x 4 ft 5 in; 3.5 x 1.35 m. fringe

Condition

The end borders are in very good condition. The side borders also. In a couple of place the border has come away from the main body of the shawl so needs a couple of stitches. There is a 1 in. slit to centre fold. Also a 1/2 in slit ; and a 1/4 in. hole together. There are a few more very small holes, some in groups. There are five very old and finely worked darns, mainly in the form of crosses, the largest 3 in. These have been worked in pashmina so one can only conclude that the owner was a European living in Indian. Photos available of course.
