Silk/Leather Shoes
1850's

Lovely colours and with a little steaming the pompom and frilled ribbon would look better. See Pratt, Lucy & Woolley, Linda Shoes p 76 See Mackenzie, Althea Shoes and Slippers p 85

Cataloguing

of black glace kid, the fronts inserted with mid blue glazed cotton tambour embroidered with blue, black and white oak leaves, a glazed cotton pompom and frill surrounding the shoe opening, the leather soles straights, impressed with Jolly 310. Massez & Co , cotton and leather lined, shaped heel 1 1/2 in; 4cm high, 8 1/2 in; 22 cm sole

Condition

The leather is a little cracked from wearing but not badly. One shoe has the blue ribbon missing from the very back of the shoe and the cord exposed which should be covered by blue cotton. The other shoe is the same but slightly worse. Obviously from handling by the wearer.
