Norwich Turnover
1820's

Very attractive design and colouring. The red and taupe are particularly good together. Turnover shawls were made to be worn in triangles, so the two wider borders were displayed on the top fold. Therefore two borders are sewn one way and the other two in reverse. Clabburn, Pamela The Norwich Shawl p63 chaper on Turnover Shawls and Chinese Architectural Designs. Whether this shawl can be classed as the later I am not sure, it is certainly has exotic foliage
