Rare Norwich Stripe - 5
c 1760

Bright stunning colours. This fabric is slightly wider than the rest. Sheen or glaze to the fabric. Marvellous wool worsted. The fabric is c 1760 and the skirt re made in 19th c. The V & A have a sample book of the Norwich manufacturer John Kelly c 1760 with production of various worsteds. Although the book was for the Portuguese market yellow stripe callimancoes in the book bear a striking resemblence to this striped skirt. Please see ARTICLES for further reading on Norwich Wool Damasks. A photograph of a similiar skirt different colourway dated 1763 held in a private collection in Friesland.
