Cut Velvet Waistcoat
18th c

Wonderful quality cut velvet. The two additional pieces are similar to the lower fronts of the waistcoats. Perhaps they were for an identical one.

Cataloguing

of deep crimson silk, the edges with a flower meander in front of a cream ribbon effect, the pockets similar, the main body with curving diaper containing flowers, the inner front with a crimson silk damask strip with buttonholes, the pocket flaps are lined with ivory silk damask, two fronts with addition of two additional pieces as if from another waistcoat.

Condition

There is no back to this waistcoat. just two front sections and two small pieces. The buttons are missing. There are some small slits to the right front, as you look at the piece, in a vertical line cutting through the flowers. The opposite side also has some damage. The left hand side has a little damage to the very top, nearest the neck and then near the first button. The centre front also has a little damage.
