Campion Triple Cloth
1883
Parry, Linda William Morris Textiles no 44, p 155 for similar. This is one of the more unusual designs. This piece could be mounted on a stretcher and hung either in a traditional frame or a perspex frame, or with no covering, and would look very good. We can mount the piece ready for framing for you. Or use for upholstery.
Cataloguing
woven wool, designed by Morris and registered 8 March, 1883, hand-loom jacquard woven Merton Abbey, repeat 23 in or 59 cm; 4ft 3 in x 3ft 5 in in or 130 x 106 cm w
Condition
This piece has been washed, presumably because it was dirty, with a result that it is in very good condition and slightly soft. The unwashed pieces would be a little stiffer. However this would not detract from its use for chair covering or as a hanging. This is not a complete width of fabric. The left hand selvedge has been cut, the right one turned in because of a slight hole half way up, which could be conserved quite easily. We can do this.
