Scottish Stole
c 1820

Beautiful and typical colours for the period. Very unusual to have two rows of pines facing the same direction.

Cataloguing

probably Edinburgh, drawloom woven, the ivory twill weave silk centre with deep end borders filled with eight gently curving pines filled with Indian inspired flowerheads, a smaller slanting row above surrounded by feathery fronds, the guard stripes and narrow edging borders in with flower meanders, all in red, blue, green and taupe, 8 ft 6 in x 4ft or 2.60 x 1.20 m

Condition

Very good apart from two large light brown watermarks to the sides of the cream field in the centre. There is also a light brown line down the length of the centre fold. I would imagine a conservator would be able to remove these.
