or for a carriage driver. of thick grey facecloth, with label Omne Tom.., Rubberless, Rainproof and retailer Samuel Brothers Ltd, 65/7 Ludgate Hill, EC five buttons to the front with cape attrached at the shoulders, slit pockets above large patch pockets with flaps to both side front, the underarm open for movement, inside with two pairs of straps secured by a button and stitching to inside front shoulder, another strap under arm, two inside pockets, one leather lined, buttoned back flap, nape of neck to hem 4ft 2 in or 1.27 m


Condition

Very good. The label is torn hence not being able to read the maker. There is a little tear (moth) at centre back and then about five pinprick holes (moth) elsewhere on back. There is a little tear 2 1/2 x 1 inch to lower coat and a smaller hole. Ask for photos. The leather lined pocket may have been done later. Very slightly grubby on some edges. One big tear to hem, needs conserving. Ask for more photos.


Comments

The straps would come forward , go under the jacket armhole and tie centre back. Holding the overcoat in position i think the patterns are  in the Tailor and Cutter cataloques. Fantastic quality. You would need to be big to manage to wear this heavy coat. It would certainly protect you in all weathers.
