Queen Anne Cord Trapunto Quilting
Early 18th c

A rare piece of amazingly intricate and skilled quilting.  How on earth did they have the patience to do it! The piece was probably from a bedcover. The cotton cord ran through the channels created by the running or backstitched parallel lines, which gave a slightly three dimensional effect. It is really interesting to see the ends of the cords popping out of the linen on the reverse. A fine reference piece.
