Spitalfields Blue Silk Stole
c 1810-15

Another delicious shawl. The centre changeable silk colouring was achieved using a royal blue warp thread with a brown weft thread.

The twill weave shot silk blue and brown centre with deep end borders with multi flower blooms in yellow, soft terracotta, green, silver on a blue ground, below a slanting stylised leaf border, above two rows of flowerheads, all outlined with striped shaded green and yellow lines, simialr side borders, 9 ft x 32 1/2 in/2.7m x 82 cm


Condition

Fantastic. Hardly noticeable. Only one little area where the threads have pulled to the centre. Ask for photo.
