Egyptianesque Parasol
1930's

When Tutankhamun tomb was discovered in 1922 the public's imagination was captured and a craze for all things Egyptian was created.  Dress designers copied the motifs on garments and on this parasol.



 


Cataloguing

Cream cotton with a wide band printed with stylised head of Cleopatra's in crimson, mid blue, terracotta and black on a cream ground, the stick of natural coloured wood with a rounded handle.



Length 35 in/90 cm


Condition

Very good apart from a little staining near the base of the parasol. One area of a little fading to the top band.
