Dresden Ruffle
1760s

Wonderfully fine example of this intricate embroidery. Notice the contrast in the dense areas of work and the drawn threadwork.  The ruffle would have been gathered and attached to a single tape, sewn inside the robe sleeve. It would have been easy to unpick it for washing.


Cataloguing

The fine muslin cotton embroidered with a trailing ribbon through which a repeat design of large sprays of stylised flowers and leaves are interwoven, small flower sprigs emerge from the top of the ribbon, worked in fine linen thread with many different drawnthread work fillings.
