Embroidered Purse
1720s

Sweet, simple and small.  Often these small purses have been made from leftover fabric from say a dress. This has been purpose made and is charmingly naive.

Cataloguing

The fine natural linen embroidered in yellow silks using back stitch, with sprays of carnations and other flowers, a rounded flap.

Depth 3 1/4 in; 8 cm

width 4 in; 10 cm

Condition

Could do with a soak in iodised water to try to remove the stains. You should be able to see small areas of discoloration on the outside of the flap, near the fold. Basically there are three small 1 cm dia circles of discolouration.  There is also slight discolouration to the right hand side, when the purse is laid flat and to the front curve. All quite feint.
