Large Fichu
1780s

This is a particularly large example. It would have been crossed over at the front and tied at the back. At two corners the embroidery does not continue. This denoted where to fold the fichu.

Cataloguing

The fine muslin ground embroidered in chain stitch, two corners with a flower head bursting with seeds,  the borders with curving leafy braches with berries, interspersed with flower heads with pulled work centres, a similar smaller outer border, two corners with simiar flower heads within circles of foliage,

4ft 2 in; 1.3 m square.

Condition

The fichu is very fresh and clean  looking. Three of the corners are a little damaged, holey. There is a large darn in L shape 3 x 4 1/4 in; 7 x11 cm. One pin head size hole.
