French Chiné Apron
Third Quarter 18th c

Beautiful silk fabric, almost certainly French, in prettiest colours and with finest smocking at waistband. The design is similar to the ikat technique where the warp threads are bound before dyeing. 


Cataloguing

The chiné silk in pale pink woven with small sprays of flowers and leaves and similar sprigs, all in pink and green, between fine stripes in pink and green, tightly smocked at the waist with a striped waisband. brass hooks and eyes to the waistband, the hem with two tucks, all hand sewn.
