A delightful panel with scenes of Chinese life. There was a huge taste for chinoiserie at the start of the eighteenth century. This could be used as a panel or cut and made into some lovely cushions. There are some Bizarre elements to this embroidery which clearly puts it into this period. Originally it would have been part of a valance from bed hangings.
Scenes of two Chinese ladies conversing, one in a blue large sleeved robe, a mandarin holding a parasol and a woman walking holding a fan, a bird and a cat? all amongst flowers, and rocks, a sun peeping out to the right hand side, all in crimson, blue, green and tan wools.
12 x 4ft 3 in in; 31 x 1.3 m
Very good. There is a little wear here and there. The edges are cut and damaged. Could be used for cushions.
