A very beautiful piece. I also have another piece the same size as this one. This would look wonderful framed. The blue has been pencilled or painted in. This length is highly glazed indicating it has never been cleaned or washed, but clearly has been used. Cotton was calendered or glazed for furnishing textiles. The fabric is passed between calender rollers at high temperatures and pressures to create the glaze, which repels dust. Popular for blinds and curtains.
A meandering branch winding its way up the textile and from which a variety of large full blown flowers hand, including mauve and yellow tulips, blue and mauve poppies, red roses surrounded by smaller species of honeysuckle, red clematis, red and blue pea shaped racemes, ten colours, all on an off white cotton ground, glazed.
