Hollie Point Cap flowerpot
1720s

Marvellous Hollie Point with not only the crown but the two panels to front and back in this technique. This cap is quite large so much have been for an a slightly older baby.

From the attic of a house built in 1550. Provance available.

The infants clothing collection will be sold together.

Description

The creamy white cap with a large circle of Hollie Point at the crown worked with a pair of small birds flanking a pot with a large flower, smaller flowers and buds emerging from the base of the pot, the circle surrounded with what looks like a frill, but is in fact buttonhole stitch loops, the back section with another Hollie Point vase of flowers, the front panel with two vases of flowers, all flanked by very fine drawn thread work and looped buttonhole stitches, a join round the cap with drawn threadwork, a double brim with round linen ties to centre front, for adjustment,  linen ties to the sides.

5 1/2 in; 14 cm.

Condition

Very very good. One small stain to back lower right of the Hollie Point circle. I feel sure a conservator could remove this.  Looking at the very back penl, there is a row of drawn threadwork near the buttonhole loops, which is weak and slightly more open. Ask for photos.
