A rare item. This baby bonnet came from Hoorn, a former Dutch East India Company town in North Holland which lies on the IJsselmeer, the former inner sea of the Netherlands, to the north of Amsterdam. It is likely to have been produced by the company Vlisco in Helmond who produced wax printed fabrics for the African and Indonesian markets.
The indigo and red batik printed cotton with a zig zag design betweem a meander with branches of stylised elongated flowers, some small pinprick white spots, caught into a simple circular crown and with a double gathered brim to three quarters of the diameter.
