Journeyman's Sample Boots
1740-60

A journeyman's (outworkers) miniature sample created by the bootmaker, and probably a riding boot. It has been suggested these were for an artists lay model, but there is no way they could get a leg into the boots. They are just too small .

Description

Of thick black leather, the main boot in grained leather,  the smooth tops with high fronts and sloping backs, the feet with rounded toes and highish heels, leather soles, all hand stitched.

3 1/2 in; 8.5 cm heel to toe.

6 1/2 in; 16.5 cm high

Condition

The feet are slightly mis-shapen. I feel a conservator would be able to soften the leather and mould them to the right shape.
